Glødkeeper

A box of mini-games played with one shared card collection, wrapped in stories and quests, and built for the phone in your pocket.

The idea

Glødkeeper is a box of mini-games. You collect a cast of characters called the Glødkin, and that one collection is what you play every game with.

Because every game draws on the same cards, the question is never “what is the single best team”. It is how do I build a collection that holds its own across all of them. Every card you own is useful somewhere, and that matters more each time a new game is added.

Five things it is

A card collection. Hundreds of illustrated Glødkin, six rarities, sixteen traits each. Your starter squad is built for you the day you join, and the collection grows from there. Trinkets, curios your Glødkin carry, add a second thing to collect.

A box of mini-games. A growing box of quick games, some against other players and some on your own. Each one is quick to pick up and leans on different traits, so your squad has opinions about which games it is good at. The tour shows what is in the box today.

Stories and quests. Illustrated stories set across six regions of one world, with tasks you play at the place the story happens. Territory rounds and delves give the map something to do between stories.

Made for your phone. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and you can add it to your home screen like an app. It is built for real phones on real signal: games survive you closing the app, and come back where you left them.

Played against real people. Today your opponents are other players’ actual teams and decks, playing as their owners set them up. Your team does the same for them while you are away. Live head-to-head, both of you playing at once, is on the roadmap next, and the server plays your turn for you if your signal drops.

What it isn’t

It isn’t a big-budget 3D game, and we would rather say so up front. The art is illustrated cards and characters (the art page has plenty), and the games are drawn for a phone screen: boards, cards and pieces. That is exactly why we call them mini-games. If you like a quick game of cards on the bus or a clever puzzle with a cup of tea, it might be for you.

Who it is for

It is built to the rules of a game for ages 7 and up: no free text between players, ever, and nothing random sold for money. Those rules don’t make it a toddler’s game. Building a collection that holds up across every game, and outthinking a real person’s team, has plenty in it for grown-ups, and a family can share the fun across ages.

The name

Glød is Danish for the glow of a live ember. A Glødkeeper is the person who looks after it, and the creatures are Glødkin (one Glødkin, two Glødkin).
